✶ Sixteen conditions, in full
The terms
every booking
is made under.
These are the rental conditions that govern cars booked through this site in Spain, and the Canaries rent under Spain. They are reproduced in full rather than summarised, with a note from us where a clause behaves differently on Tenerife than you might expect.
The clauses below are the supplier conditions, quoted as written. The indented notes are ours: they are commentary on what a clause means in practice here, and they do not change or override anything. Where the two ever appear to disagree, the clause is what applies.
The minimum chargeable rental period is 24 hours. It means that if you rent a car for a few hours, you will be charged for a full day. For example, if you need a car from Monday morning to Tuesday afternoon, you will be charged for two full days.
Count your rental in whole days when you plan it. A morning collection and an evening return is one day, not most of one.
If you want to extend your rental period, you must inform the rental agent in advance.
You must return your rental car with the same level of fuel you picked it up with. If the level of fuel is lower, you pay the difference at the rates of car rental company. If the level of fuel is higher, you are not compensated for the difference.
Note the asymmetry in the second half. Returning it fuller is money you do not get back, so fill it to the mark rather than past it.
If the car is returned so dirty that it hinders its inspection, the car will be washed at the customer's expense.
Relevant on this island if you have been parked on a beach in a blow. A rinse before you hand it back is cheaper than theirs.
Standard insurance does not cover damages to wheels, undercarriage, windscreen, and interior of the car.
The most important clause on this page, and the reason the excess and how to reduce it is worth five minutes before you travel. Those four groups are exactly what a mountain road and a tight town bay threaten.
In case of an insured event, you must immediately notify the rental agent and receive a police report, except as otherwise agreed with the agent. Failure to fulfil these conditions will cancel the insurance issued for the car and make you fully responsible.
Both halves are required: immediate notification and a police report. A claim raised the next morning without a report is a claim that may not exist.
The insurance is invalid in the event of deliberate damage to the car caused by intentional vandalism or neglect.
Neglect is the word to watch. Driving on a flat rather than stopping, or ignoring a temperature warning, moves an incident into this clause.
Rental cars are allowed to travel only on paved public roads.
Genuinely live on Tenerife, which is full of unsurfaced tracks in Teno and Anaga that look drivable. How the island's roads behave covers where the temptation actually arises.
If you plan to travel outside the country, please notify the rental agent in advance to complete the required documents.
The Canaries are Spain, so an inter-island ferry is not obviously covered by this clause either way. Ask your supplier rather than assuming, in either direction.
The contact phone number with the correct country code provided at the time of booking must be available throughout the car rental period and on the day before pick-up. We do not accept any service quality claims, if it was impossible to contact the renter by mobile phone or messengers (Viber / WhatsApp / Telegram).
Put a number on the booking that will actually work abroad, and make sure it is switched on the day before you fly.
The payment for fuel, parking, fines, and toll roads is the responsibility of the renter.
Tenerife has no toll roads, so in practice this clause is about parking penalties and speeding fines, which follow the agreement back to you.
The driver's minimum age and driving experience are listed on each car's page. These requirements may vary even for similar models. The rental agent has the right to refuse to provide the service at any time if the driver's age and/or driving experience does not meet the requirements for a particular car. Please use the filters to find cars that match your criteria.
Per car, not per company. Check it on the listing you are actually booking rather than assuming a fleet-wide rule.
To rent a car, you must have a valid national driver's license with details duplicated in Latin script. The expiry date on the license must be no earlier than the end date of the rental period. Copies or electronic licenses are not accepted. If your driver's license is only valid in the country of issuance, we strongly recommend including an International Driving Permit (IDP) in your documents and providing it upon request.
The physical card, not a photograph and not an app. A UK, EU, EEA or Swiss photocard meets this as written.
Check the methods for paying the remaining rental cost, holding of the deposit, and the deposit refund timelines during the booking process and in the rental voucher.
This is the clause that lets the deposit be shown before you book rather than at a counter. See renting without a hold on your card for what the zero-deposit listings do differently.
Renting a car may require a mandatory physical embossed credit card in the name of the main driver. If a credit card is required, ensure that you have it with you when picking up the car. In some cases, rental companies may accept debit cards, which will also be specified during booking and in your voucher. The debit card must also be a physical, personalized card with embossed details and issued in the name of the main driver. Ensure that you have the card with you when picking up the car.
The single most common reason a collection fails. Treat the credit card as mandatory and be pleasantly surprised if it is not.
Only small pets may travel in rented cars and should be kept in their travel carriers at all times.
Spanish traffic law adds its own requirement on top: a pet must be restrained, and one in the front passenger seat can be fined up to five hundred euros even inside a carrier.
What this site is, for the avoidance of doubt
We are a booking site. The rental contract is between you and the supplier who hands you the keys, and the conditions above are theirs. What we do is show you the deposit, the excess, the cover and the card requirement on each car before you commit, in euros, so that none of it is a surprise at a counter in an arrivals hall.
We do not hold your money, we do not set the prices, and we do not have a fleet. If something goes wrong at collection, the supplier named on your voucher is who to call first. If you want a second pair of eyes on it, write to us at info@tenerifeairportcarrental.com and we will help where we can.
✶ Everything shown up front
The deposit is on the car.
The whole point of these conditions being on a page rather than in a drawer is that you can read them before you book. Search your dates and every listing shows its own deposit, excess and card rule.
