Where do you collect a rental car in Puerto de la Cruz?

At one of three named points, or at your address. Puerto de la Cruz is the only town on Tenerife where the booking offers predetermined places to collect from, and they carry these names when you choose the pick-up:

• Bus Station Guaguas Puerto de la Cruz, the town's bus station.
• Parking Parque Taoro, the car park at Parque Taoro.
• Free parking Puerto de la Cruz, a free car park in the town.
• City delivery, where the car is brought to the address you give: a hotel, an apartment, wherever you are staying.

There is no rental office to walk into here. The car is handed over at the point on your booking, and Puerto de la Cruz has more cars to choose from than anywhere on the island except the two airports and Playa de las Américas, which puts it fourth.

Returning somewhere else is a one-way. A one-way back to Tenerife South is among the deeper one-way routes on the island, after the run between the two airports and the one to Playa de las Américas, and its fee shows with the price before you book.

What do you need to collect a car at the bus station or a car park?

The same as at any pick-up point on the island, because every booking runs under the same rental conditions. A named point in town is a public place, so arrive with all of it to hand:

• The licence card itself, valid until the last day of the rental, with its details in Latin script. Copies and electronic licences are not accepted, and an International Driving Permit is strongly recommended where a licence is valid only in the country that issued it.
• A card in the main driver's name, physical and embossed. A credit card may be required; where the booking and the voucher say a debit card is accepted, it has to pass the same tests.
• Your phone, switched on. The number on the booking, with its country code, has to be reachable on the day before pick-up and through the rental, by call or on Viber, WhatsApp or Telegram. A complaint about the service is not accepted if the renter could not be contacted.
• The booking details. How the rest of the rental is paid, how the deposit is held and when it is refunded are set out during booking and in the voucher.

The driver has to match the car as well. The minimum age and the driving experience are listed on each car's page and differ even between similar models, and the agent may refuse the handover if the driver does not meet them. Check the V-16 beacon is in the car before you drive off: it replaced warning triangles on 1 January 2026.

Which airport should you fly into for Puerto de la Cruz?

Tenerife North if you can, especially for an automatic. From Puerto de la Cruz it is about 27 minutes and 31 km to the northern airport without traffic, against about 82 minutes and 97 km to Tenerife South.

If you land at the south terminal and are staying here, the choice is between collecting at the airport and driving about 81 minutes and 97 km north without traffic, or reaching the town first and collecting at one of its points. The card, the licence and the deposit rules are identical at both ends.

How far is it from Puerto de la Cruz?

The north is close. La Orotava is about 9 minutes and 7 km away without traffic, Santa Cruz about 30 minutes and 38 km, and El Portillo, the northern approach to Teide, about 38 minutes and 29 km. Costa Adeje is about 69 minutes and 66 km. Closer to town, the TF-31 at Martiánez runs through a false tunnel 292.7 metres long, and the tunnel is unlit.

Where do you fill up before returning the car?

Close to the centre. A Cepsa and a BP stand on the Carretera del Botánico, between 0.4 and 0.7 km from Plaza del Charco, and either works as the last fill before a return at one of the town's points. The car goes back at the fuel level it had at collection; below that, the difference is charged at the rental company's rates, and above it you are not compensated.

A car handed back so dirty that it cannot be inspected is washed at the renter's expense. The minimum chargeable period is 24 hours, so a short rental is charged as a full day, and keeping the car longer than booked means telling the rental agent in advance.

Cover is set per car. At the standard level it excludes the wheels, the undercarriage, the windscreen and the interior, and the higher levels each car offers are listed and priced on the car itself.
