Can you rent a car in Santa Cruz without a credit card?

On some cars, yes. Renting a car may require a physical, embossed credit card in the main driver's name, but not every car does, and the listing shows which before you book. Some rental companies accept a debit card instead, and when they do, it is specified during booking and in your rental voucher.

So the search only helps if you read the card line on each car. Put Santa Cruz in as the pick-up and check the card requirement on the car before you pay, the same way as when picking the car up at TFS, where the same rules apply in the arrival area.

What kind of card is accepted?

A real one. If a credit card is required, it must be physical and embossed, in the main driver's name, and with you when the car is handed over. What should you know about driving in Santa Cruz?

The TF-1 from the south meets the TF-5 from the north at Santa Cruz, and both carry fixed speed cameras; the motorways are toll-free. Two stations sit at that meeting point: the BP on Avenida Tres de Mayo 85, open 06:00 to 22:00, and the DISA on Ortega y Gasset 1, open 24 hours.

Out to Anaga, the El Bailadero tunnel on the TF-134 is 375 m long and unlit. Rental cars may only be driven on paved public roads, which rules out the tracks in parts of Anaga. In town the parking colours apply: blue metered with a time limit, unmarked white free, yellow no parking.

How far is it from Santa Cruz?

La Laguna is about 12 minutes away without traffic and Los Rodeos and its quieter terminal about 13. Las Teresitas is about 15, and Puerto de la Cruz about 28, where the pick-up points in Puerto de la Cruz make it the one town with named handover places.

The return goes the way the delivery came: at the fuel level the car had when it arrived. Below it, the difference is charged at the rental company's rates, and above it you are not compensated, so the DISA on Ortega y Gasset, open around the clock, suits a late return.
