Can you rent a car in El Médano with no deposit?

On some cars. The deposit is set car by car and shown on each listing before you book, and the listing marks it when it is low. Some cars on the island's list hold no deposit at all, and they appear in the same results as the rest rather than on a separate list. Whether one is offered for El Médano on your dates is answered by the search: put El Médano in as the pick-up and read the deposit on each car.

The same listing says whether the deposit can be paid in cash, which is also set per car. The way a car with no deposit is listed is the same everywhere on the island, so a car that holds nothing in El Médano is shown the same way as one at the airport.

How is the deposit held, and when does it come back?

Check three things during booking and again in your rental voucher: how the rest of the rental is paid, how the deposit is held, and when it is refunded. All three are set out there for the car you book, so the voucher is the document to keep to hand until the deposit is back.

The card is a separate question from the deposit. A physical, embossed credit card in the main driver's name may be required even on a car with a low deposit. Some rental companies accept a debit card, and the booking and the voucher say so when they do; it must also be physical, personalised, embossed and in the main driver's name.

What does a car with no deposit not change?

The excess. The deposit is what is held at the handover; the excess is the most you pay towards damage at the level of cover you chose. Open a car and its comparison of insurance policies has a row for the deductible at each cover level, Minimum, Basic, Full and Full Plus, showing an amount, “No franchise” or “Not available” for that car.

It does not change the exclusions either. At the standard cover on a no-deposit car the wheels, the undercarriage, the windscreen and the interior are excluded, and after an insured event you must tell the rental agent straight away and get a police report, or the insurance on the car is cancelled.

How does the handover work in El Médano?

By delivery. City delivery is the only handover offered for El Médano: the car is brought to the address you give, and there is no office in the town. Whether delivery is included or adds a charge is set per car and shown on the listing, so compare the total, deposit and delivery together, rather than the daily rate alone.

Have the licence card itself with you, valid, in Latin script and in date until the end of the rental; copies and electronic licences are not accepted. Keep the phone number on the booking reachable from the day before the delivery, and check the minimum age and driving experience on the car's page, because they are set per car.

How far is it from El Médano?

Tenerife South Airport is about 18 minutes and 5 km away without traffic, Los Cristianos about 24 minutes and Costa Adeje about 23. Next door, a car brought to an address in Golf del Sur works the same way, and Santa Cruz is about 44 minutes up the east coast.

Where do you fill up and park in El Médano?

The TGAS on the TF-64 at km 7.7 is open 24 hours. Return the car at the fuel level it had when it was delivered: the difference below it is charged at the rental company's rates, and you are not compensated for returning it fuller. A car handed back so dirty that it cannot be inspected is washed at your expense, which is worth remembering in a beach town.

Street bays follow the usual colours: blue for metered with a time limit, unmarked white for free, yellow for no parking. A modular car park is planned on Calle Isla Tenerife, with works starting in September 2026. The alisio, the north-east trade wind, blows here most of the year, which is what makes the town a windsurfing and kitesurfing centre.
