Will the car be delivered to me in Golf del Sur?

Yes, and delivery is the only way to get one here. City delivery is the one handover offered for Golf del Sur: the car is brought to the address you give when you book, an apartment, a villa or a hotel, and there is no office or building to walk to.

Whether delivery costs anything is a question about the car, not the resort. Some cars include it and others add a charge, and each listing says which before you book, so two cars at the same daily rate can end up at different totals. Why does the car come back to Golf del Sur?

Because Golf del Sur is a pick-up point only. It takes no one-way rental in either direction, so a car delivered here cannot be left anywhere else, and a car collected anywhere else cannot be left here. The drop-off in your booking is Golf del Sur, the same as the pick-up.

That decides the shape of the rental when the last day is a flight. If you want a car that ends at the terminal, the rental has to start somewhere that allows it, and the arrival area at Tenerife South is about twenty minutes and 7 km away without traffic. Collect there and return there, or keep the delivery in Golf del Sur and make the airport run another way.

It is also one of the smaller pick-up points on the island, so the list for your dates can be short. Book when your dates are firm, and if the car you want is not offered here, the airport has the widest choice on the island. What should you have ready when the car arrives?

A delivery is a pick-up held at your door, under the same rental conditions as any other. Have these with you at the address you gave:

• Your driving licence card. The licence itself, valid, with its details in Latin script and an expiry date no earlier than the last day of the rental. Copies and electronic licences are refused.
• A card in the main driver's name. Physical and embossed. Some cars require a credit card; where a debit card is accepted, the booking and the voucher say so, and it has to be physical, personalised and embossed too.
• The phone on the booking. It must be reachable, with its country code, from the day before the delivery until the car goes back. Service complaints are not accepted if the renter could not be contacted by phone or messenger.
• A driver the car accepts. Minimum age and driving experience are set per car and listed on its page, and the agent may refuse the handover if they are not met.

Where do you fill up before it goes back?

Not in the resort. There is no fuel station in Golf del Sur, Amarilla Golf or Los Abrigos; the nearest are at Las Chafiras, about 3 km away. The car goes back at the fuel level it had at delivery: below it, the difference is charged at the rental company's rates, and above it you are not compensated. So the last fill belongs on the way home on the final day, at Las Chafiras.

Two more conditions apply at the return. A car handed back so dirty that it cannot be inspected is washed at your expense, and the rental is charged in 24-hour periods, so if you want it longer than booked, tell the rental agent in advance.

How far is it from Golf del Sur?

Golf del Sur sits between the two halves of the south coast: El Médano is about 15 minutes away without traffic, Los Cristianos about 19, Playa de las Américas about 20 and Tenerife South Airport about twenty. Santa Cruz is about 50 minutes and Puerto de la Cruz about 72.

Which car should you have delivered?

Decide the gearbox first. Automatics are a minority of the island's list and sit mostly in the compact and crossover classes, and seven seaters are scarce, so either one is worth booking early for a delivery to a small point. Cover is chosen per car: at the standard level of cover in Golf del Sur the wheels, the undercarriage, the windscreen and the interior are excluded, and the higher levels a car offers are priced on that car.

Rental cars may only be driven on paved public roads.
